Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) shot up in a poll that asked about the 2028 Democratic presidential primary after his recent record-breaking Senate speech.
Booker placed second in a hypothetical primary behind former Vice President Kamala Harris in an Echelon Insights poll released this week, drawing support from 11 percent of respondents.
In the same poll last month, Booker drew 2 percent support among party respondents — putting him in line with roughly a dozen other Democratic figures with low single-digit support.
Booker, who is serving in his second term, set a record for the longest Senate speech in history in early April by holding the upper chamber's floor for more than 25 hours.
The New Jersey Democrat used his speech to go after policies put in place by President Trump in the last few months and criticized spending cuts from Republicans.
Booker's speech has put him back in the political spotlight for Democrats. The marathon address was credited with helping lift Democratic spirits after the party has spent months reeling from Trump's victory in November election.
Trump’s second presidency has brought along with it party infighting and policy defeats for Democrats, who were victorious in the presidential election five years ago.
In the Echelon Insights poll, 28 percent of Democratic and Democratic-leaning respondents said they were supportive of Harris in a potential 2028 presidential primary. Last month, 33 percent backed Harris in the poll.
In a hypothetical head-to-head matchup with Harris, 54 percent backed the former vice president and 34 percent backed Booker.
Booker and Harris both made unsuccessful primary bids during the 2020 campaign season.
The poll of 1,015 voters was conducted April 10-15 and has a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points.
