Eva Hammelmüller Sends 5.14c/d in France

On February 26, Austrian climber Eva Hammelmüller repeated Sans Complexe 5.14c/d (8c+/9a) in Lourmarin, France. She has now sent 26 routes graded 5.14c or harder. Of those routes, 19 of them are 5.14c and five are 5.14d, and two are 5.14c/d, including Sans Complexe.

Sans Complexe was established by Erwan Legrand in 2023. He called the route a soft 5.14d. On her 8a.nu, Hammelmüller said she agreed with fellow ascensionists Legrand and Antoine Maire’s grade assessment, calling the route a “crazy hard [5.14c] or soft [5.14d]”.

“I can now proudly say that I don’t fear mono-underclings anymore,” said Hammelmüller on Instagram. “Once I figured out a sequence to connect the pockets in the crux, I was able to confidently climb the last boulder after 35 metres of pumpy tufa and pocket climbing. Some things this line has taught me: I actually like monos. It’s okay to switch routes if you keep falling on the same move. I love funky crux boulders. Don’t blame everything on conditions.”

Just a couple of weeks ago, Hammelmüller sent her fifth 5.14d with her ascent of WRC at Castillon, a stunning tufa crag near Nice, France. On the same day, she flashed BarjoLand 5.13d and redpointed Total Jobard 5.14a. Two days earlier, she took down Alien Carnage 5.14c, which she confirmed took only two days of work – Alien Carnage was her nineteenth of the grade. Impressively, it was her fourth climbing day in a row when she sent WRC.

Hammelmüller is known for her sending sprees and tenacity on rock. At the start of December 2025, she clipped the chains of Stefano Ghisolfi’s Omen Nomen 5.14d. The route was initially graded 5.14c when Ghisolfi made the FA in 2017, but subsequent ascensionists upgraded it to 5.14d. In 2021, Hammelmüller sent Underground 5.14c/d in Arco. She climbed her first 5.14d in 2024 with Hades in Innsbruck, Austria.

In February of 2025, she spent time climbing in France and Spain. Over a period of two days in France, she redpointed two 5.14a routes (Un Bonjour Pour Mûrir and En Verve et Contre Tous) and flashed one 5.13d (Bon Pied, Mon Oeil!). A few days later, in Oliana, she flashed another 5.13d, De Picos Pardos and ticked Identificación y Placa 5.14b. On February 15 she redpointed Ramon Julian line Esclatamàsters 5.14d in Lleida, in only four sessions. She then redpointed Blanquita 5.14c, La Morenita 5.14c, Joe Blau 5.14c, T-1 Full Equip 5.14a, and Crimptonite 5.14a. She also onsighted Humildes pa Casa 5.14a.
