Jana Švecová Climbs V14 in Italy

Jana Švecová has announced her recent ascent of L’Oppio Dei Climbers V14 (8B+) in Val Daone, Italy. It came not long after Katie Lamb’s ascent of the problem – in fact, Švecová came incredibly close to sending on the same day as Lamb, but fell on the very last hold. She said she was “feeling super pumped and couldn’t really fight it anymore.” She continued, “I just wanted to join the send train, but despite all of my effort, I was just too tired that day. ”

But she very soon achieved her top of the Valdo Chilese’s problem. Sharing the news of her ascent on Instagram, Švecová said, “Fought my way through another gem boulder, L’oppio dei climbers [V14]. This one was a rollercoaster of emotions”. A new video of her send has just been released on her YouTube channel, which you can view below.

The V14 takes a sequence of 20+ moves on steep terrain. It has seen repeats by top climbers like Stefano Ghisolfi and Adam Ondra, among others. In the fall of 2025, Janja Garnbret made the first female ascent. “It is a very finicky boulder problem where physical and technical difficulties meet,” according to Ondra. “You need a lot of core power, as well as being incredibly precise and gentle with heel-toe cams. The top-out is icing on the cake that I haven’t really tried much before, and I definitely underestimated it.”

Švecová has a stacked bouldering resume. According to her 8a.nu, she has climbed three V15s, two of which are first ascents, five V14s (including L’Oppio Dei Climbers0, and seven V13s. Earlier this year, she established Tokyo Drift V15 at the Holstejn crag in Czechia. She has been on a journey to become the first climber to repeat Ondra’s Terranova V16. Just before leaving for her trip to Val Daone, she made huge progress on the boulder she climbed Terranova in two overlapping parts in one session.

In June 2023, she made the first ascent of Nova, a variation of Terranova. Švecová originally graded the problem V14, but Will Bosi suggested an upgrade to V15 after his second ascent. Later that year, in December, she made the first ascent of  Dune and proposed V13. Bosi also suggested an upgrade for this, calling it V14.
