Watch live: White House holds press briefing one day before tariffs deadline

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt will speak to reporters Tuesday afternoon, a day before President Trump's tariffs on Canada, Mexico, China and certain product imports are set to take place.

The president has dubbed April 2 as "liberation day," vowing to also levy reciprocal tariffs on countries that target the U.S. Though he has suggested that some nations may receive a reprieve.

The press briefing follows the Trump administration's decision to close its probe into a Signal app chat where top national security advisers inadvertently shared plans about a strike on Houthi rebels in Yemen with a veteran journalist. The leak, dubbed "Signalgate," was largely brushed off by the president and his officials.

It also comes as rhetoric around Trump launching a third-term bid has heated up in recent days.

The press briefing is scheduled to begin at noon EDT.
