Canucks end 11-game winless skid, beat Washington Capitals 4-3

The skid is over.

After a franchise-record 11 straight losses, the Vancouver Canucks hung on for a 4-3 win over the Washington Capitals in NHL action Wednesday at Rogers Arena.

Brock Boeser, Evander Kane, Drew O’Connor and Filip Hronek scored for Vancouver (17-28-5), with David Kampf and Jake DeBrusk each adding two assists. Kevin Lankinen made 29 saves to pick up the win in goal.

Dylan Strome (2) and Justin Sourdif replied for Washington (24-21-6), while John Carlson had a pair of helpers. Logan Thompson took the loss in net, stopping 21 of 25 shots.

The Caps had a 2-0 lead before the game was 10 minutes old, converting on a pair of power-play chances.

Strome opened the scoring at 8:25, finishing off a nice three-way passing play with Tom Wilson and Carlson. Strome now has 12 goals on the season.

Richmond-born Sourdif (a former Vancouver Giant) followed just more than a minute later, converting a Strome feed for his 10th of the season.

After a Kampf steal, Boeser beat Thompson high to the blocker side to pull Vancouver within one at 13:32. Boeser is now up to 11 goals on the year.

Kane pulled Vancouver even at 2-2 with his ninth of the season at 18:22, picking up a loose puck behind the net and scoring from a bad angle to the side of Thompson.

Shots on goal after 20 minutes favoured Washington, 11-10.

Vancouver took their first lead 8:58 into the middle frame. Kampf made a deft pass from behind the net to O’Connor, who beat Thompson for his 12th of the year.

Hronek made it 4-2 at 11:43, converting a return pass from DeBrusk on a 2-on-1 for his fourth marker of the year.

Washington outshot Vancouver 12-11 in the period, 23-21 overall after 40 minutes.

In the third, Washington (with Thompson on the bench in favour of an extra attacker) pulled within one at 16:37, when Strome knocked in a loose puck in front of Lankinen. But the Caps could get no closer as the Canucks earned their first win of 2026.

The Canucks host the New Jersey Devils on Friday (7 p.m.).
