Chainsaw-wielding man arrested and charged in Vancouver's West End

Vancouver police seized an electric chainsaw they say a man was wielding while walking toward people at a coffee shop.

A man has been charged following a chainsaw incident in Vancouver’s West End on Wednesday night.

Vancouver police allege a man was yelling obscenities near a coffee shop patio near Davie and Denman streets when he turned on an electric chainsaw and began walking toward people.

Bystanders ran away, and no one was injured, according to police.

Police say the man was arrested at Beach Avenue and Burnaby Street within three minutes of receiving the 911 call.

David Meadows, 67, has been charged with one count of possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
