A suspect is in police custody after gunshots were fired at a Surrey police station on Monday afternoon.
At around 3:13 p.m., Surrey police officers near the Gateway SkyTrain Station at University Drive and 108 Avenue reported a man was firing off gunshots in the area. No one was injured by the gunfire and the suspect fled to the front of SPS’s District 1 station, at King George Boulevard and 107 Avenue, where more shots were fired.
Officers from the Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team (IERT) and the Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Service (IPDS) responded to help SPS officers and were able to safely take the suspect into custody.
The police station was temporarily closed as an explosives team searched a bag left in the station. The bag was checked and didn’t contain anything suspicious.
All vehicle and pedestrian traffic has been closed off to the public in the area as police continue to investigate.
Anyone who witnessed the shots fired or actions of the suspect, or has CCTV or dashcam footage, is asked to contact the SPS non-emergency line at 604-599-0502 and quote file number 25-87819 (SP) or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or www.solvecrime.ca.
Police have taken the shooting suspect into custody.
