Vancouver's Burrard Bridge to be temporarily closed this weekend

The removal of a crane from the Sen̓áḵw development will mean the Burrard Bridge will be shut to vehicle traffic Saturday and Sunday.

Prepare for traffic chaos if you’re planning to head into downtown Vancouver this weekend.

The Burrard Bridge will be temporarily closed to all vehicle traffic on Saturday and Sunday between 7 a.m. and noon, as workers at the Sen̓áḵw development next to the bridge will be dismantling and removing a large crane used in the construction of Sen̓áḵw.

While all vehicle lanes will be closed during this time, cyclists can still use the east-side bike lane to travel north. Cyclists going south will have to dismount and walk their bikes along the east side, or find an alternate route. Pedestrians will still be able to access the sidewalk on the east side.

Buses that normally travel over the bridge at this time will be rerouted, and riders can visit translink.ca/alerts for any changes.

Vancouver police traffic personnel will be on-site to facilitate public movement through the area.

A large influx of visitors to downtown is expected on the weekend for the Rugby Sevens tournament at B.C. Place, which has attracted nearly 70,000 fans each weekend that it’s been held over the past decade.

The Sen̓áḵw development is a massive project on 1.7 hectares of Squamish Nation land adjacent to the bridge that will see more than 11 towers, featuring 6,000 rental units and 1,200 homes. Construction began in September 2022.
