Getting there: How to get to the Sun Run
Take transit. TransLink, including SkyTrain, SeaBus and certain bus routes, opens early on race day with added service. TransLink is boosting service on SkyTrain, SeaBus, and the West Coast Express to help runners get to the starting line on time. Keep in mind that some bus routes will be rerouted due to road closures for the race.
Visit translink.ca for details or to plan your specific route.
Bus: All major TransLink bus services run Sunday morning.
SeaBus: SeaBus service will start an hour earlier, with the first departure from Lonsdale Quay at 7:32 a.m. and from Waterfront Station at 7:46 a.m.
SkyTrain: SkyTrain service on the Expo and Millennium lines will begin about 30 minutes earlier on Sunday, with the earliest Expo train heading to Waterfront Station leaving King George Station at 6:38 a.m., and from Production Way-University at 6:38 a.m.
The earliest Millennium line train will leave Lafarge Lake-Douglas to VCC Clark at 6:26 a.m. and from Lougheed Town Centre at 6:41 a.m.
Canada Line: TransLink said Canada Line trains will also be running more frequently throughout the day, with the earliest train leaving Richmond-Brighouse at 5:04 a.m. and leaving YVR-Airport at 5:09 a.m.
West Coast Express: The West Coast Express, which typically does not run on weekends, will operate a special train departing from Mission City Station at 7 a.m. and arriving to Waterfront for 8:15 a.m. Post-race, there will be an eastbound train leaving Waterfront Station at 1 p.m.
Save time and pre-pay for transit: To avoid line ups, pre-pay your fare with fare cards or FareSavers. Those coming on SkyTrain can purchase two tickets at the station in the morning when they’re coming in and save one of those tickets for the trip home. Please move down the aisle to make more room for your fellow Sun Runners if the bus or train is crowded.
Transit customers will have to pay only a single-zone fare of $3.35 for an Adult Fare, $2.25 for a Concession Fare while kids under 12 are free to travel throughout the entire bus, SkyTrain and SeaBus network. Concession fares apply to youths aged 13 to 18 years old, seniors 65 and older with proof of age, and HandyCard holders riding conventional transit.
Bike Valet: Those who opt to ride their bike in can use a bike valet service located at B.C. Place at Gate C. The valet will be open from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
How to watch from the sidelines
You don’t need to be a runner, a jogger, or a walker to have fun. Invite family and friends to watch the race from the sidelines, and join in the fun and festivities on the course and at the finish line.
The party starts at B.C. Place at 9 a.m., just in time to entertain the Mini Sun Runners and the first of the elite runners crossing the finish line at about 9:30 a.m. There will be snacks, samples and entertainment for everyone.
At 11 a.m., presentations will be made to the top finishers and the top Canadians, both male and female, and to the winners of the masters and wheelchair divisions. As well, Youth Team Challenge winners will be recognized with their prize cheques.
