President Trump said Friday morning he hopes to get publisher Rupert Murdoch to testify as part of the lawsuit he vowed to file against The Wall Street Journal after the outlet reported about an alleged birthday letter Trump sent 20 years ago to Jeffrey Epstein, the disgraced financier since convicted of sex trafficking and other crimes.
“I look forward to getting Rupert Murdoch to testify in my lawsuit against him and his 'pile of garbage' newspaper, the WSJ,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social. “That will be an interesting experience!!!”
Trump hammered The Wall Street Journal Thursday night, after the newspaper reported on the letter the president allegedly sent to Epstein in 2003 for the financier’s 50th birthday.
The news outlet, whose publisher is Dow Jones owned by News Corp., reported Thursday evening that Trump’s message was typed inside the outline of a naked woman and has the president’s signature.
“A pal is a wonderful thing. Happy Birthday — and may every day be another wonderful secret,” the last line of the letter said, according to the Journal.
In a Truth Social post, Trump said he will be suing “The Wall Street Journal, NewsCorp, and Mr. Murdoch, shortly,” adding that the news media “has to learn to be truthful, and not rely on sources that probably don’t even exist.”
“President Trump has already beaten George Stephanopoulos/ABC, 60 Minutes/CBS, and others, and looks forward to suing and holding accountable the once great Wall Street Journal,” according to the post.
Trump and the conservative media mogul have had a years-long hot-and-cold relationship. Murdoch was in Trump’s suite Sunday at the FIFA Club World Cup final.
Shortly after saying he would sue the Journal, Trump directed Attorney General Pam Bondi to release relevant grand jury testimony in Epstein’s case.
“Based on the ridiculous amount of publicity given to Jeffrey Epstein, I have asked Attorney General Pam Bondi to produce any and all pertinent Grand Jury testimony, subject to Court approval,” Trump wrote Thursday night. “This SCAM, perpetuated by the Democrats, should end, right now!”
