Abbotsford school damaged in arson: police

Abbotsford police are investigating a fire at the Bakerview Centre for Learning school that broke out early Monday.

Police are investigating a suspected arson at an alternative high school in Abbotsford early Monday.

Officers were called to a report of a fire at the Bakerview Centre for Learning School in the 32600-block Marshall Road just before 3:50 a.m.

Firefighters were already at the site extinguishing a small fire, said police. The fire damaged the exterior and interior of the building. There were no injuries.

Abbotsford police said the fire is being investigated as an arson. Investigators are expected to be on-site today to assess the damage and gather evidence.

The school will be closed on Monday due to the investigation and for cleanup and repairs, said the Abbotsford School District.

Bakerview offers an alternative secondary school program, a night school program for adults, and self-paced courses.

Police are asking anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area, or who has dashcam footage at the time of the incident, to call the Abbotsford Police Department at 604-859-5225.
