Poland Reports Massive Drop in Irregular Border Crossings from Belarus

Poland recorded 235 attempted irregular border crossings from Belarus in the first half of 2026, a significant decrease from the more than 15,500 attempts reported during the same period in 2025. The Polish Interior Ministry stated that border officers intercepted all attempts this year. The steady decline in successful crossings coincides with Poland’s $790 million investment in border fortifications, which includes a 5.5-meter-high steel fence and extensive electronic surveillance systems across the Podlaskie and Lubelskie regions.
