Listen live: Supreme Court considers challenge to LGBTQ books in schools

The Supreme Court on Tuesday will consider a case involving a group of Maryland parents who sued their school's district over its refusal to allow them to opt their elementary school children from classes using books that have LGBTQ characters or themes.

The parents' appeal to the nation's highest court in Mahmoud v. Taylor comes after a federal appeals court rejected their challenge last year.

In 2023, more than half of the most challenged library books were those with LGBTQ themes or characters, according to the American Library Association (ALA).

The oral arguments are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. EDT.
