Suspect arrested in Langley City slaying

A 37-year-old man has been charged with murder in the death of a 47-year-old who was found shot in a quiet Langley City neighbourhood last month.

Justin Hopkins-Jones has been charged with one count of second degree murder. Homicide investigators say this appears to be an isolated incident in which the suspect and the victim were known to one another.

On the night of May 26, at about 11:34 p.m., reports of shots being fired brought Langley RCMP officers to the 5400 block of Brydon Crescent.

First responders found a wounded man and tried to give first aid, but he died at the scene.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team was on the scene within hours and had taken over the case.

According to Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT, officers worked tirelessly to speak with witnesses, and pieced together the events leading up to the shooting.

Hopkins-Jones was arrested on May 30, and charged officially on May 31, Fong said.

“Despite the complexity of investigation, IHIT investigators were able to quickly identify and locate the accused,” says Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT. “This was made possible by the witnesses who came forward with information and the strong collaboration between IHIT and its policing partners across the Lower Mainland.”

Those charged with a criminal offence are considered not guilty until proven otherwise in a court of law.

This appears to be the second time in less than a year that Hopkins-Jones has been charged with murder in B.C.

According to media reports, on Sept. 27, 2025, 39-year-old Jason Pinette was found badly beaten at a Kamloops bus stop.

A man named Justin Rory Hopkins-Jones was arrested several days later and charged with second-degree murder. Charges were dropped by the B.C. Prosecution Service on March 27.
