
Witnesses sought in Surrey sexual assault
Investigators are seeking witnesses after a 58-year-old man was arrested after an alleged sexual assault in Surrey last week.
The Surrey Police Service said it happened at 12:15 p.m. on Aug. 5 near a Tim Hortons at 8080 120th St. and a Salvation Army thrift store at 8066 120th St.
The SPS special investigation unit is appealing to the public for anyone who saw the assault or has dashcam or CCTV footage.
Anyone who was in the area of the coffee and thrift shops on 120th Street around 12:15 p.m. last Tuesday or has relevant footage is asked to call the SPS non-emergency line at 604-599-0502.
Abdulkarim Ahmad Alhamid has been arrested and a charge of sexual assault was approved by the B.C. Prosecution Service. Alhamid is in custody.
Suspicious death in Port Alberni
Police in Port Alberni are investigation a suspicious death after a man was reportedly assaulted then died in hospital of his injuries.
Shortly after 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, Port Alberni RCMP got a report about an assault near the intersection of Johnston road and Victoria Quay. A man with serious injuries was taken to hospital where he died.
The Port Alberni RCMP general investigation section is working to determine how the man died. “Based on the initial information, this death is being treated as suspicious,” said RCMP Cpl. Alex Bérubé in a statement.
The victim has been identified but police are not releasing his name.
