BURSTA portion of Highway 1 has reopened due to reduced fire impacts along parts of the corridor, according to Drive BC.
However, Highway 1 remains closed for an approximately 20-kilometre stretch between Spuzzum Creek Road and Aspen Road as of Tuesday morning (Aug. 25).
“Wildfire activity in the Fraser Canyon continues to affect Highway 1, though improving conditions have allowed adjustments to closures,” Drive BC said.
BC Wildfire Service said rockfall continues to be a hazard and periodically impacts Highway 1.
Fire behaviour in the Brunswick Complex was low overnight, and is expected to remain low on Tuesday (Aug. 25).
BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) weather conditions will remain similar to Monday with mild winds and clear skies.
“Fire behaviour may vary significantly across the complex due to differences in terrain, fuels, wind exposure and smoke,” BCWS said.
The Brunswick Complex, which includes the 67,722-hectare Ainslie Creek wildfire and the 9,266-hectare Brunswick Creek wildfire, remains out of control.
While the Brunswick Complex wildfires continue to burn, some evacuated residents were able to return home in the past several days.
The Fraser Valley Regional District partially downgraded an evacuation order on Monday (Aug. 24) and cancelled an evacuation alert for Area B on Sunday (Aug. 23).
The evacuation order was downgraded to an alert for properties south of the Alexandra Bridge to Sawmill Creek and west of the Fraser River, along with properties in Spuzzum First Nation.
As of Monday (Aug. 24), the evacuation order remained in effect for properties between Alexandra Lodge to Alexandra Bridge, and properties on the east side of the Fraser River and south of the Alexandra Bridge.
An evacuation alert for Area B in the Fraser Valley Regional District (FVRD) has been rescinded. The regional district announced that the alert for Sawmill Creek to Dogwood Valley first issued on Aug. 1 was cancelled after a change in wildfire activity in the area.
Other evacuation orders and alerts from the FVRD related to the Brunswick Complex remain in effect. The regional district’s Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) continues to operate.
The Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) has downgraded some properties on evacuation order to alert, and some on evacuation alert to all clear, due to decreased threat from the Ainslie Creek wildfire.
