A new film called Climbing Through from Arc’teryx just dropped. It features Em Pellerin and Julia Niles on big trad routes in Cochamó Valley, Chile – watch it below.
Niles was the fifth American woman to attain the IFMGA certification as a mountain guide and is an instructor for ACMG guides. She did the first all-female team ski descent of the Grand Teton and was the first woman to free-solo (alone, in a day) the iconic 13 peak Grand Traverse in the Grand Tetons. And Pellerin is the only Canadian woman to climb 5.14 trad and onsight 5.13d. She works as an ACMG apprentice rock guide.
The film description reads: When there always seems to be a tornado of obligation surrounding us, how do we commit to the moment and connect to the magic of now? Motherhood, guiding, her own counseling practice—professional climber Julia Niles has danced between responsibilities for years. Lured by her friend, pro athlete Em Pellerin, to go climb the big walls of Cochamó Valley, Chile, Julia relearns what it means to thrive. High off the deck, tied together, every action becomes a powerful reminder to slow down and embrace the present. And the experience becomes the fuel for what’s to come.
