Regional fire officials are at the scene this morning of a fire that destroyed the Topley Garage yesterday afternoon.
Six members and two vehicles from the Topley Volunteer Fire Department responded within minutes of a call about the blaze, but the wooden structure was fully engulfed by the time they arrived.
Firefighters contained the blaze to the structure and also sprayed down a large fuel tank at Grizzly Jim’s General Store next door to keep it cool as a precautionary measure.
Topley is approximately halfway between Houston and Burns Lake on Highway 16.
RCMP officers were also on hand, and a BC Hydro crew was called out because an electrical line had melted and fallen across Highway 16. Also called out was a B.C. An ambulance vehicle in case any firefighters needed assistance.
Firefighters were at the scene until later in the evening to prevent hotspots from erupting into flame.
