It’s been a huge month in the world of climbing, and in case you missed some of the action, here’s a breakdown in no particular order. One of the biggest stories was that of Elias Iagnemma making the first ascent of Exodia and proposing the grade V18. If confirmed, Exodia would become the first boulder problem of its grade and quite possibly the hardest boulder in the world.
Janja Garnbret climbed three V13s and two and V11s in a single session in Ticino with Vecchio Leone V13, Amber V13, Versace V13, Fake Pamplemousse V11, and Frogger V11. This was Garnbret’s second sendy day of the trip. On her first day of the visit, she topped Dreamtime V15, The Dagger V13, and La Proue V13.
Jakob Schubert just the second ascent of Mount Doom V17 , and became the first 5.15d climber to send two V17s. And Sean Bailey made the second ascent of Arrival of the Birds V17 in Chironico for his third of the grade. Tim Emmett climbed his first 5.14d with Chris Sharma’s Era Vella 5.14d in Margalef after hundreds of attempts over several years. Pietro Vidi climbed the iconic Beth Rodden route Meltdown 5.14c trad in Yosemite’s Cascade Creek.
In Spain, Chaehyun Seo climbed her second 5.15a with Papichulo, onsighted Humildes pa Casa 5.14a, and redpointed La Morenita 5.14c and El Gran Blau 5.14a/b. Adam Ondra had some big sends this month with a flash of Foundation’s Edge V15 in Fionnay, and a flash of the famous 5.14a trad route Greenspit in Valle dell’Orco.
