BURSTAhead of the new school year, the B.C. government is highlighting how many school capital projects have been completed since the NDP took office in 2017.
Premier David Eby touted the achievement at the new seismically upgraded Stride Avenue Community Elementary in Burnaby Tuesday (Sept. 1). He was joined by Education Minister Lisa Beare, Burnaby East MLA Rohini Arora and Burnaby school board chair Kristin Schnider and other staff from the Burnaby school district.
The government says the Burnaby elementary school marks the 250th project. The government adds that equates to 4,700 student seats.
Twenty-three of those projects are opening for the coming school year: Six new schools in six communities, 14 additions in 11 communities and three seismic replacements in three communities.
The government says there are still 51 school capital projects underway in B.C.: 13 new schools, 27 additions, 10 seismic upgrades and replacements and one renovation.
