The giant Trionda is soon to be gone, but not forgotten.
Science World was transformed into a giant replica of the official World Cup ball when FIFA’s marquee tournament came to Vancouver this year, but the centre announced on Facebook on Friday that work is set to begin to return the building to its traditional state.
“Well folks, it’s that time: One of the last remnants of the World Cup 2026 is coming to an end,” the centre wrote on Facebook.
Work will start on Tuesday, and expected to take two to three weeks to complete. Science World hinted that there was a future for the panels once they were removed.
Science World’s Soccer and Technology exhibit will run until Monday, and those visiting this weekend will get a free postcard featuring the Science World Trionda.
The massive ball was one of the most recognizable images from the World Cup, across all the venues in Canada, Mexico and the U.S., with images of it being broadcast around the world and through social media feeds of those who visited.
