BURSTA man reported as missing last week has now been found deceased in what RCMP are treating as a suspicious death.
On Feb. 27, 2026, Terrace RCMP said they were looking for John Bangay, 56, after family members reported on Feb. 22, 2026 that he had not been seen or heard from in three weeks.
“While the investigation into their death is in the early stages, it is being treated as suspicious,” a brief RCMP statement on March 3, 2026 indicated.
“The BC RCMP Major Crime Section has taken conduct of the investigation and will be looking to establish the circumstances leading to the person’s death.”
Citing privacy regulations, RCMP are not connecting the discovery of Bangay with a significant police presence in the Pine Street area of lower Thornhill.
The release of a name would only come if there was charge information or unless there was a need to advance the investigation, police added.
