B.C. Conservatives cut ties with another candidate over social media controversy

Jordan McIntosh has been dropped by the B.C. Conservative Party as a candidate in Vancouver-Strathcona.

The B.C. Conservative Party has cut ties with Vancouver-Strathcona candidate Jordan McIntosh after he was accused of tweeting about Hitler and downplaying the Holocaust.

Within hours of NDP candidate Callista Ryan posting screenshots on X of what she claimed were McIntosh’s posts, the Conservative Party deleted McIntosh from its website and said he would not sit with the caucus if elected.

It’s the second time in as many weeks that Conservative leader Lorne Doerkson has dropped a candidate over offensive social media posts. Joachim Agou, the former Conservative candidate in the Victoria-Beacon Hill riding, was turfed from the party after he posted comments praising violence against pro-Palestine protesters.

Agou, in a now-deleted social media post, had commented on a video of a car crashing into a crowd of pro-Palestine protesters in Lausanne, Switzerland, last year, saying: “He should have reversed too!”

In that case, Agou said he would continue to run as an independent, and, in an apology posted to Facebook, took responsibility for his comments.

“Taken on their own, my words could be read as supporting violence. I should have expressed myself more clearly and calmly,” he wrote.

McIntosh has not said if he will continue to run as an independent in the strongly NDP-leaning riding.

In Wednesday night’s debate among party leaders, Doerkson alleged there was an antisemitic faction within the NDP, pointing at the departure of former cabinet minister Selina Robinson, who resigned from cabinet in 2024 after being caught up in a controversy for calling Gaza “a crappy piece of land.”
