BURSTA new 2025 Liberator fire engine will improve response capabilities for the Cluculz Lake Fire Department while replacing an aging apparatus.
The department has added the new engine to its fleet, bringing updated technology, increased water capacity and improved firefighting capabilities to the community.
The 2025 Liberator fire engine, manufactured by Fort Garry Fire Trucks of Winnipeg on a Freightliner chassis, was delivered in mid-April and has been in service with the department since then.
The new engine carries 900 gallons of water and is equipped with multiple hose lays, various firefighting equipment, a 1050 GPM pump and integrated foam capabilities. The total cost of the engine, including taxes and additional equipment such as auto chains, integrated communications, hose, nozzles, valves and other equipment, was $680,000.
According to Regional Fire Chief Jason Blackwell, the new engine replaces the Cluculz Lake Fire Department’s previous fire engine, which was more than 25 years old. The older engine will remain in service as an additional unit within the department’s fleet.
Blackwell said the replacement was made possible through an opportunity to utilize the Resource Benefit Alliance (RBA) grant funding, meaning there were no implications for taxpayers.
“The new truck is more reliable with newer technology and better pumping capability with an integrated foam system,” Blackwell said. “It will provide improved capabilities for any response requiring suppression.”
The additional apparatus also increases the department’s fleet capacity, allowing for more water availability at emergency scenes.
