Jakob Schubert Makes History! Climbs His Second 5.15d

Jakob Schubert has repeated Seb Bouin’s 5.15d (9c) route DNA at La Ramirole, France. He is now the first climber to have climbed two routes graded 5.15d. In 2023, Schubert famously made the first ascent of B.I.G. 5.15d (9c) during a livestream.

Bouin made the first ascent of DNA in April 2022 after nearly 200 days of projecting and roughly 250 attempts. He described the route as the most challenging project of his career, writing: “It’s the most challenging project I’ve ever done. It’s the hardest route I’ve ever tried and climbed in my climbing career. This route marks a milestone in my climbing life.”

Schubert, a two-time Olympic bronze medalist, is one of the most accomplished climbers of all time. In 2023, he became the first climber to complete routes at both the highest sport-climbing grade and the hardest bouldering grade in the world, with the first ascent of B.I.G. and a send of Shawn Raboutou’s Alphane V17 in Ticino, Switzerland. He’s also climbed Shaolin V17 and Mount Doom V17.

Here are Schubert’s attempts of DNA: attempt 1, attempt 2, attempt 3, attempt 4, attempt 5, attempt 6, attempt 7, attempt 8, and attempt 9 (the send!). Follow him on Instagram below for future updates on his historic send.
