Surrey police and family members are searching for two 12-year-old girls who failed to show up for school Friday.

On Friday morning, the principal of a school in the Fraser Heights neighbourhood contacted police when Alicia Merck and Olivia Moon didn’t show up for school.

They were both expected to walk to school together. SPS spokesperson Ian MacDonald said it’s possible they ditched school but that family say it’s very out of character for both of them. So out of an abundance of caution they are putting out an alert hoping someone will see them.

Police say Moon is wearing a blue top and white dress, and Merck is wearing a red cropped hoodie and red shirt.

Police and family have been looking for the pair, who are believed to be in each other’s company. Area businesses and the homes of the youths have been checked by police.

Police say it’s believed one of the girls has a mobile phone but family has been unable to make contact.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Merck and Moon is asked to call Surrey Police Service’s non-emergency line at 604-599-0502.
