News just broke that a rock climber has died at Mount Nemo in Ontario. The crag, south of Toronto, is one of the province’s oldest and most popular.
While details are scarce at this time, the media outlet Insauga reported, “A man has died following a climbing accident at Mount Nemo Conservation Area Monday, prompting a high-angle rope rescue by Burlington firefighters.”
The article goes on to mention “A second climber, who had been climbing with the victim, was rescued after being found anchored to a ledge about 15 feet from the top of the cliff. He was reportedly uninjured but unable to ascend without assistance.” Comments on social media have suggested the incident happened on or around Big Game Ledge – not confirmed.
No name or age of the climber has been released. We’ll have more information once it’s made available. Mount Nemo is part of the Niagara Escarpment. Our condolences to the victim’s family and friends.
