Trump Administration Warns Ukraine Against Attacking Non-Russian Vessels
The Trump administration has formally warned Ukraine to refrain from attacking non-Russian vessels in the Black Sea. The diplomatic notice followed meetings between senior US officials and Chevron CEO Mike Wirth, whose company chartered one of the four tankers recently targeted by Ukrainian forces near the Russian port of Novorossiysk. Novorossiysk serves as the terminus for the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC), which supplies 2% of global daily crude oil and is considered by Washington as a vital alternative to Russian energy for European markets. Chevron holds significant stakes in the CPC and the connected Tengiz oil field in Kazakhstan.
