Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Secretary Doug Collins will testify Thursday morning before a House Appropriations subcommittee on the department's fiscal 2026 budget request.
The request seeks a boost in funding to modernize the VA's information systems and support efforts to combat veteran homelessness. It also includes cuts to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs and its robust information technology (IT) department.
Collins, leaning on the Department of Government Efficiency's (DOGE) advice, announced in March plans to slash at least 8,000 jobs within the VA. Democratic lawmakers have pushed back on the move, crafting legislation to protect veterans' jobs.
The hearing is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. EDT.
