Two new wildfires sparked in Burns Lake area

Two new wildfires are burning in the Burns Lake area after hundreds of lightning strikes hit the ground in the Lakes District last night.

Fire G41970 was discovered on Aug. 25 and is located approximately 7 kilometres northwest of Endako on Bomberger Forest Service Road.

As of 9 a.m. on Aug. 26, the fire sits at approximately 20 hectares in size and is considered out of control.

Suppression efforts are being taken to limit the spread of the fire.

In addition, fire R11969 is burning approximately 10 kilometres south of Burns Lake and is 500 metres north of 7 Mile FSR.

That fire is approximately 0.009 hectares in size and suppression actions are also being taken, though the cause of this wildfire is currently under investigation.
