Two wildfires that ignited this week are burning out of control in B.C., according to the B.C. Wildfire Service.
The latest, discovered Wednesday, is 0.7 square kilometres and is rapidly spreading in the Cariboo Fire Centre, north of Itcha Igachuz Provincial Park and 1.5 kilometres north of Tsilbekuz Lake. The cause is unknown.
The other out-of-control blaze is the Stuart Lake wildfire that ignited Tuesday in the Prince George Fire Centre. That fire is mapped at 0.03 square kilometres and is believed to be human caused.
Wildfire officials say as of Wednesday evening there were 15 wildfires burning in the province. Of those, two are out of control, four are being held and nine are under control.
So far this year there have been 57 wildfires, scorching about 11.6 square kilometres of land.
The service says heading into the 2026 wildfire season, fuel conditions across B.C. are very dry from last season’s drought and recent warm and dry conditions.
