B.C. MLA Jordan Kealy charged with one count of sexual assault

B.C. Independent MLA Jordan Kealy, who represents Peace River North, has been charged with one count of sexual assault, the B.C. Prosecution Service said Thursday.

The service says the alleged offences occurred between Jan. 1 and Sept. 20, 2024. Vancouver lawyer Gail Barnes has been appointed special prosecutor in the investigation into the allegations against Kealy.

Kealy was charged in Fort St. John on Wednesday. His first appearance in provincial court is set for July 6.

None of the allegations has been proven in court.

The special prosecutor will not be releasing any further information at this time.

Kealy sits as an Independent after he and MLA Tara Armstrong left the B.C. Conservative party last year in solidarity with MLA Dallas Brodie after she was ejected from the party for comments about residential schools.
