A judge has agreed to allow conspiracy theorist Alex Jones to sell his Infowars business in order to help pay damages to the families of Sandy Hook victims.
Judge Maya Guerra Gamble ruled this week that Jones' company Free Speech Systems, will be turned over to a court-appointed receiver and be responsible for selling off its assets, CNN reported.
The satirical website The Onion last year put in a bid to purchase Infowars, before a federal bankruptcy judge blocked the sale citing a lack of transparency in the auction process at the time.
Guerra Gamble's ruling clears the way for The Onion to revive its bid for the far-right media platform.
Jones, a vocal supporter of President Trump, is known for his peddling of unfounded theories about liberals and media figures and in 2022 was found liable by a judge of defaming the families of victims of the 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut, which led to deaths of 26 people.
He was ordered to pay them hundreds of millions of dollars as a result.
