World’s Most Expensive Gasoline Reported in Russia-occupied Ukraine Region Targeted by Drones
In Russian-occupied Crimea, relentless Ukrainian drone strikes have caused severe fuel shortages and sharply higher prices. Motorists report pump prices of $3.50 to $5.85 per liter ($13.25 to $22.14 a gallon) — including 450 rubles a liter for premium fuel in Yalta — far above Russia’s official average of about $1.52 per liter ($5.75 a gallon) and among the highest in the world. Rationing of up to 20 liters (5.3 gallons) per vehicle is in effect, cash-only payments are common, and long queues are widespread. Official statistics contradict the reality drivers describe on the ground. Similar shortages have hit mainland Russia, including along stretches of Siberian highway, but prices there remain lower than in Crimea.
