Man wanted in Calgary murder arrested in Abbotsford

File photo: The Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of B.C. has arrested a man in B.C. wanted for second-degree murder in Calgary.

A man wanted on murder charges in Calgary has been arrested in Abbotsford in a “high-risk takedown,” said B.C.’s anti-gang squad.

The man, who was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for second-degree murder, was arrested at 12:50 p.m. on Tuesday by members of the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of B.C.

In a news release Wednesday, police say they moved in after learning the suspect had previously dodged arrest and might be about to leave the Lower Mainland. The suspect tried to flee, but was taken into custody without incident. No one was hurt.

The man has been transferred to the custody of the Calgary Police Service.

The CFSEU said the arrest was made on the request of Calgary police. It didn’t identify the man, referring inquiries to Calgary authorities.

Calgary police declined to provide details, citing a continuing investigation.

“We can confirm that the Calgary Police Service has been contacted by the B.C. RCMP in relation to an arrest believed to be connected to an ongoing Calgary murder investigation,” it said in an emailed statement.
