One fatality in vehicle crash on Highway 5 near McLure: RCMP

Update, 11:17 a.m.

A person has died in a vehicle collision on Highway 5 near McLure.

B.C. RCMP have confirmed that at around 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 7, B.C. Emergency Health Services called in to report that a semi-truck collided with an SUV, which resulted in one fatality.

The location of the crash was on Highway 5 near McLure.

A reconstructionist was notified as well as the coroner, RCMP say.

The highway was closed for the investigation.

As of 11:05 a.m., Drive B.C. was notifying the public of the road closure due to the incident.

The closure runs for a 1.3 km stretch between Dianna Road and Pinegrove Road, 11 to 13 km south of Barriere.

Drive B.C. is reporting a road closure near McLure due to a vehicle incident.

At 9:29 a.m. on Sunday, June 7, Drive B.C. posted to X saying a stretch of Highway 5 was closed in McLure due to an earlier vehicle incident.

Their first post about the incident was at 6:40 a.m. saying the closure was at Pinegrove Road.

“Crews are en route to provide assistance. Assessment in progress,” they said.

At 7:18 a.m. Drive B.C. also noted the closure of the McLure Ferry due to crewing issues because of the closure between Dianna Road and Pinegrove Road.

Argo Road Maintenance confirmed at 10:34 a.m. that the ferry was open again.

The closure runs for about 1.3 km between Dianna Road and Pinegrove Road and is about 11 to 13 km south of Barriere.
