An accident that snarled traffic on Highway 99 in Delta for hours on Friday night and required 18 ambulances — including a helicopter — has resulted in no fatalities and only two serious injuries, according to police.
Around 4:30 p.m. on Friday, a semitruck and trailer was travelling west on Highway 99 just past the Highway 91 interchange when it was involved in an accident that sent it careening through the median and into continuing traffic , where it struck an SUV and double-decker TransLink bus carrying close to 60 passengers. The chaotic scene seemed to have been sparked by a westbound accident in front of the truck, which then swerved to avoid the pileup and ended up in the eastbound lanes .
Police have asked the public for any dashcam or video footage of the accident for their investigation, and can contact Surrey Police’s non-emergency number at 604-599-0502 and quote file 26-111726.
