White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre will brief reporters Thursday afternoon, hours after President Biden issued the largest act of clemency in a single day in modern history.
Biden commuted the sentences of nearly 1,500 people and issued 39 pardons, with a focus on those who were under home confinement during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the administration's release.
The move came as he has been under pressure to pardon more individuals after he granted one for his son, Hunter Biden, related to his federal gun and tax charges. The president in a statement said he would take more steps in the weeks ahead before he leaves office.
The briefing is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. EST.
