Cameron Hörst Climbs Lion’s Share 5.14d

Cameron Hörst recently climbed Lion’s Share 5.14d at Wolf Point in Wyoming, noting on 8a.nu, “Mojos coming back. Stellar route.” Lion’s Share was first climbed in 2018 by BJ Tilden, and repeated this year also by Jonathan Siegrist and Tyler Thompson.

Cameron grew up in a climbing family, with both parents, Eric and Lisa Hörst, being avid climbers. His father, Eric, is a renowned climbing coach and author of Training for Climbing. Cameron’s younger brother, Jonathan, is also an accomplished climber.

Cameron began climbing at a young age, achieving remarkable milestones early: he redpointed his first 5.13 at age 9 and three 5.14a routes at age 11. By 2023, he had climbed over 100 routes graded 5.14 or harder, including his first 5.15a, Bone Tomahawk, in May 2021, and the first ascent of Martial Law 5.15a in 2023 at Robber’s Roost cave, Mt. Charleston.

Hörst said on 8a.nu, “When I arrived, Lion’s Share immediately caught my eye—it’s the centerpiece route of the wall! After just a few sessions on the route, I managed to ‘tickle the send,’ falling on the exit moves of the final crux. I thought I’d get it on my next try, but had to be patient—respect the route, wait for better skin and conditions.”
