President Trump welcomed South African President Cyril Ramaphosa to the White House Wednesday, as tension between the two nations has ramped up since Trump returned to the Oval Office.
Ramaphosa is seeking to soften relations after Trump accused the South African government of being racist toward white Afrikaners, seizing their farmland and promoting genocide. The U.S. president also offered white refugees from the nation an expedited pathway to citizenship earlier this year.
Elon Musk, a key Trump ally who was born in South Africa, is also expected to attend a lunch with the two world leaders ahead of the meeting.
The event is scheduled to begin at 12:45 p.m. EDT.
