Three men have been arrested and charged in a March 2025 shooting linked to extortion.
On Monday, Surrey police announced a trio of men in their 20s face one count each of recklessly discharging a firearm, in connection to a shooting earlier this year that targeted a home.
Mandeep Gidda, 23, Nirmaandeep Cheema, 20, and Arundeep Singh, 26, were arrested Oct. 3. Gidda and Cheema will appear in court on Monday, while Singh is due in court on Wednesday.
Shortly before 2 a.m. on March 27, police were called to a home in the 13300-block of 89A Avenue after shots were fired at a residential property. No one was injured in the shooting, and the victim called police that same day.
Investigators determined the shooting was linked to an ongoing extortion investigation, though police did not share specifics about what led to the targeted attack on the victim’s home.
In recent months, a number of businesses in Surrey have been targeted by gunfire and acts of violence, following a string of extortion threats toward the business owners.
“These three arrests and charges are a positive step forward as Surrey Police Service continues to aggressively tackle the issue of extortions,” said SPS Chief Const. Norm Lipinski.
“Enforcement and all investigative tactics will continue to ramp up as we work together to bring these criminals to justice.”
The announcement of arrests and charges came the same day another business was hit by gunfire.
Around 2:20 a.m., Surrey police were called to the 2100-block of King George Boulevard for what was reported to be gunshots.
Officers who examined the scene found bullet holes in the exterior of a commercial building. The business was closed and there was no one inside. No injuries were reported.
Police remain on scene Monday morning and have not confirmed whether the business had received any extortion threats before the shooting.
The 2100-block of King George is a sparse stretch of road, save for an unassuming commercial strip featuring a Chevron gas station, the family-owned Grandview Inn, and an Ustaad G76 Indian Cuisine restaurant, the latter of which is one of four locations in the Metro Vancouver area.
Days earlier, Ridge Meadows RCMP confirmed they were investigating gunshots fired at another Ustaad G76 location in Maple Ridge. No one was injured in the Oct. 1 shooting.
Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators at 604-599-0502. Police are particularly interested in any surveillance or dashboard camera footage taken in the area between 2 and 2:30 a.m.
A string of shootings impacting Surrey businesses in recent months has prompted all three levels of government to put together separate task forces dedicated to investigating the incidents.
