House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) and Democratic leaders will give remarks Tuesday morning as Congress stares down a government shutdown.
Federal funding is set to lapse at midnight, despite GOP lawmaker's efforts to pass a continuing resolution that would have kept the lights on until mid-November.
Democrats — whose leaders met with President Trump on Monday to attempt negotiations, which fell flat — have vowed to hold back support for a stopgap funding bill unless their Republican counterparts are willing to extend Affordable Care Act subsidies or address Medicaid cuts in the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act."
The comments also come a day after the president shared a controversial video using artificial intelligence (AI) that superimposed a mustache and sombrero on Jeffries, who condemned the post, and altered comments made by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.).
The press conference is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. EDT.
