A Langley RMCP member has been charged with two counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm and will appear in court in Surrey June 22.
The BC Prosecution Service (BCPS) announced that charges have been approved against Const. Denis Miano Maina, following an incident that occurred in Langley on June 1, 2025.
The incident was investigated by the Independent Investigations Office (IIO) and referred to the BCPS for charge assessment.
Maina, born in 1988, was charged with two counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm, contrary to section 320.13(2) of the Criminal Code, was sworn on June 1, 2026, in Surrey provincial court.
The charges were approved by an experienced Crown counsel who has no connection with the accused, explained Damienne Darby, communications counsel with the BC Prosecution Service.
Shortly before 2:30 a.m., a Langley RCMP officer driving a marked police vehicle was travelling eastbound on Fraser Highway, according to the Independent Investigations Office (IIO). The vehicle was then involved in a collision at the intersection of Fraser Highway and 260 Street with a white 2023 Hyundai Elantra. See previous story.
The police officer, passenger, and driver of the Elantra were assessed by paramedics at the scene. They all then went to a hospital for precautionary reasons and further assessment.
The incident was initially investigated by the Langley RCMP. Upon further review of medical evidence, it was reported to the IIO on March 12, 2026. The IIO investigates incidents where there has been an injury that meets a threshold of ‘serious harm’ as defined by the Police Act or of death.
