BURSTTwo people are in custody after reports of shots fired in a small community northwest of Fort St. James.
Police received a report of gunshots being fired near Tachie, a First Nations village along the banks of Stuart Lake, on Thursday (July 9), Fort St. James RCMP said in a news release. When officers arrived in the area, they could reportedly hear shots being fired.
As officers approached the location, the release notes, one suspect was “safely” taken into custody outside a home. Police say other occupants inside the home refused to exit when directed to by officers.
RCMP say the North District Emergency Response Team was called in to assist.
Another occupant in the home was then “safely taken into custody without further incident.”
Police say there were no injuries reported.
“This was a dynamic situation involving reports of gunfire and individuals who were initially unwilling to comply with police directions,” B.C. RCMP Cpl. Brett Urano said.
RCMP say the investigation is ongoing and there are no further detail available at this time.
