There are dozens of must-watch climbing films from the late 1990s and early 2000s, but these five are among the most classic of them all.
Most of the footage is on classic boulders, though several first ascents of sport and trad routes are included. Enjoy!
The Read Thing (1996): This is the first feature length bouldering movie ever made. Britain’s top rock climbers Jerry Moffatt and Ben Moon take you on a rollercoaster road trip from the classic gritstone crags of the U.K.’s Peak District to France’s Fontainebleau. Also starring climbing hero Sean Myles, the late and great Kurt Albert and French climbing legend Marc Le Menestrel. A must watch for all boulderers, with an unforgettable pumping soundtrack.
Rampage (1999): The classic American bouldering movie that helped launch the bouldering revolution. Follow Chris Sharma, Obe Carrion and friends on a two month road trip across the west. Features Castle Rock, LakeTahoe, Priest Draw, Black Mountain, The Tramway, Squamish, Humboldt and The X-Games.
Inertia 2 (2002): A 2002 follow-up to the classic film Inertia 1 by Paul Dusatko. Randy Leavitt makes the impossible possible with the first ascent of the 140-ft Book of Hate 5.13d. Featuring the first female ascents of:Lurking Fear 513c, Soul Train 514a, and Cholos V9.
