One skier is dead after an avalanche struck Thursday afternoon in a heli‑skiing area of the Selkirk Mountains southeast of Revelstoke.
RCMP say the avalanche hit shortly after 2 p.m in a backcountry area. The skier was located in the debris field under approximately 1.5 metres of snow.The person had been skiing with three other people and a guide. Emergency crews tried to save the person but the skier died.
Police did not release any details about the person who died, including age, where the person was from , or gender.
The B.C. Coroners Service is leading the investigation, with assistance from the Revelstoke RCMP.
