A 58-year-old man who was found shot inside a vehicle in Maple Ridge last month has died.
As a result, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has taken over the investigation from the Maple Ridge RCMP.
“We are grateful to the Maple Ridge RCMP serious crime unit, which has been conducting a thorough and robust investigation to date,” said IHIT spokeswoman Sgt. Freda Fong. “With the victim’s death, IHIT investigators are now in a good position to take over conduct of the homicide investigation. Investigators continue to work with the victim’s family and friends to gain an understanding of his activities, relationships and movements leading up to his death.”
Police were called to the 11400-block of 236th Street on Aug. 18 shortly after 10 p.m. Upon arrival, police found the man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound inside a vehicle. He was taken to hospital in critical condition, but died on Aug. 31.
Fong said police believe the shooting was targeted.
Police aren’t identifying the victim, as it will not further the investigation, Fong said.
