In Pakistan’s Kohistan district, the body of a man named Naseeruddin, who had been missing for 28 years, has been found frozen in a glacier in the Supat Valley. The discovery was made by a local shepherd on Aug. 1.
The glacier had preserved Naseeruddin’s body, clothing, and more. A card found in his pocket confirmed his identity, as reported by The Express Tribune. It has been one of the hottest summers on record in the area, which has led to a rapid melting of glaciers – read more here.
Naseeruddin, aged 33 at the time of his disappearance, belonged to the Saleh Khel tribe. He went missing after falling into a crevasse while travelling with his horse in the remote area. He had been fleeing a violent family feud. He left behind a widow and two children that searched for him for years.
Kohistan, located in northern Pakistan and bordering Gilgit-Baltistan, is a remote area requiring nearly a day of trekking to reach. The discovery has brought closure to Naseeruddin’s family, who had lived with uncertainty for nearly three decades.
