US Eyes December Decision on Permanent Military Base in Poland

The US is expected to decide in December whether to establish its first permanent military base in Poland, Polish Deputy Defense Minister Stanisław Wziątek announced on Friday, Oct. 30. A Pentagon posture review is nearing completion, though an announcement could extend into early next year. General Dariusz Łukowski, former head of Poland’s National Security Bureau, estimated the project would cost 3 billion zloty (€700 million) plus several billion in infrastructure, identifying Wrocław, Szczecin, Bydgoszcz, and Poznań as prospective sites.
