For the first time all season, the Tampa Bay Lightning will skate without their captain.
Defenceman Victor Hedman was ruled out shortly before Thursday’s game against the Calgary Flames with a lower-body injury, the team said.
He is listed as day-to-day and took part in pre-game warmups before it was determined he could not suit up.
Hedman, 33, has tallied four goals and 21 assists in 26 games so far this season.
He took over the Lightning captaincy in September after Steven Stamkos departed for Nashville in free agency.
Tampa Bay returns to the ice Saturday against the Seattle Kraken.
